MacOS X 10.5 Leopard

Apple’s MacOS X 10.5 “Leopard” has been out a while now, and I hear about more and more people hitting an installation snag that causes them a lot of grief.

I’ve encountered this on several computers so far. I can’t tell you exactly what causes it. I’ve seen it on both Intel and PowerPC machines.

iChat hologram effect

One complaint some users have about the new release of Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is that the cool R2D2-like hologram effect for iChat and Photobooth that was present in beta copies is missing in the final releae.

MacOS X 10.5

Though it’s not as good as having it in your hot little hands, you can now preorder the next version of MacOS X 10.5 (”Leopard”) from Amazon.com. Follow that link to see their page on it. Leopard is due out “in October” with a list price of $129.

Leopard comes in the regular flavor and, for the scrupulously honest of you out there, in a family pack that includes a license to use it on multiple machines (last time around it was five machines I believe but the description doesn’t say how many this time). The family pack is priced at $199.
