Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Keurig K-Cup Coffee

I know that I recently blogged about Amazon’s $10 savings on groceries, but I wanted to point out an extra good deal they’re offering.

You can pick up two boxes of Keurig K-Cup coffee (for instance, their Extra Bold Dark Magic) for $18.50. The normal price for one box is $13.95. Even if you join Green Mountain’s coffee club and save $2/box, you’re paying $11.95/box.

Amazon $10 Grocery Credit offer

Amazon launched a new “grocery store” a few months back. They’re selling non-perishable items in bulk quantities… kind of like what you’d find at BJ’s or other warehouse stores.

You probably don’t want to pay to ship pounds and pounds of pasta to yourself, but most grocery items are eligible for Amazon’s free shipping for orders over $25, or free 2-day shipping if you’re an Amazon Prime member.

Their prices are a bit variable, but in many cases they’re pretty good. They also are offering a $10 immediate discount on orders over $49, good until November 30th.

IMG_2838

Ever since I saw these on Slashfood, I’ve sworn I’d never have them in my house, but they’ve never left my mind. A few days ago I ran across them… perhaps sought them out… at the local food coop. I was horrified… perhaps gratified… to find them.

Lemon Olive-Oil Rosemary Cake

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

This is a lovely, light, tasty unusual cake that’s great with tea. Sometime I’m going to try making it substituting honey for part of the sugar… I think that would be even more tasty. The recipe is based on one from Epicurious, with a few changes.

Salsa Verde

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Salsa Verde is a great addition to eggs, mild flavored meats and enchiladas, and tortilla chips. It’s sweet and sour and nicely green tasting (not green like mulch, though). Using a food processor, it only takes a few minutes to make. (more…)

Sesame Seared Tuna

Monday, November 28th, 2005

I’m not a fan of all things seafood - in fact, I’m pretty much a fan of no-things seafood - but well prepared seared tuna with sesame seeds can be wonderful, provided the tuna is very, very fresh. It’s the best of both worlds; a light fresh sushi-ish interior with a tasty, seared, sesame-crusted outside. This recipe is easy; all you need is a pan, a burner and a source of very fresh high quality tuna steaks.

Serves 2

Requires about 10-15 minutes of work.

Cuisinart Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

This is another indispensable kitchen item.

I have a pair of them. I use them to make salad dressing, chop nuts, make small amounts of pesto, make bread crumbs, make breading, chop herbs and spices, chop garlic. (more…)

Zyliss Salad Spinner

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

If you make salads (and who couldn’t use a little more salad in their diets?), a salad spinner is indispensable unless you really enjoy drying salad by hand or eating dirty greens.

I never knew there were so many salad spinner options until I looked up the Zyliss model, which I have, on Amazon.
