Leopard is Very Shiny Indeed

This is pretty cool. If you check out Amazon’s top selling software list, “MacOS X Version 10.5 Leopard” is the top seller, and “MacOS X Version 10.5 Leopard Family Pack” is the number two top seller.

This is cool for a couple of reasons… first, we know that there’s a lot of pent-up desire for Leopard, but given that Apple’s marketshare is well below Windows’, the fact that Leopard is outselling all other software, period, on Amazon, is very interesting.

It’s also cool because the fact that the family pack is number two… which says that a lot of people need Leopard for multiple computers, and that they’re willing to pay for the extra licenses - which isn’t a lot, considering that Apple lets you have four additional licenses (for your own machines) for only $70.

The other cool thing is that “Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Student and Teacher” is the fourth top seller, “Apple iLife ‘08″ is the sixth, “Apple .Mac 5.0″ is the seventh, “Parallels Desktop 3.0″ is ninth, and “Apple iWork ‘08″ and “Apple iWork ‘08 Family Pack” are eleventh and twelfth, respectively, with “Apple iLife ‘08 Family Pack” coming in at fourteen.

That’s a lot of Mac software in the best seller list!

It looks like Amazon won’t be able to ship Leopard until the day Apple is promising to release it, so if you must have Leopard ASAP, you can still pre-order it from the Apple Store. And also - if you need a copy of Parallels, you can save an extra $20 by buying it at the same time as Leopard from Amazon and then submitting a rebate.
