Blood Elf Mounts in World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft Blood Elf Hawktrider Mount

I recently hit level 40 with my Blood Elf character in World of Warcraft, and let me tell you, now that I have a mount, it is such a pleasure riding around the World of Warcraft on a giant purple chicken and having 14 year old Alliance players make clucking noises at you!

Until now, the only character I’d had reach level 40 was my Paladin. As a Paladin, I had my mount given to me as the reward for a quest, so I’d never gone the normal route and purchased and trained for a mount and I realized I didn’t know what I needed to do. Being a Blood Elf doubled that confusion as most of the mount guides you’ll find by Googling don’t cover the Burning Crusade expansion pack.

In order to purchase your Hawkstrider, you’ll need to get yourself back to Silvermoon City. Outside the city, just south of it and to the east is a small building with Hawkstriders parked outside it (coordinates 61, 54). You can buy your mount there and then train inside. Expect to pay 10 gold for your mount and 90 gold for your training (10% off if you’re Honored with Silvermoon City, which it seems unlikely that you could have reached level 40 without that happening). Hawkstriders come in black, red, blue and purple, so get your agonizing over with before you get there.

Later at level 60 you’ll be able to purchase your epic chicken - I mean Swift Hawkstrider - for 90 gold. Swift Hawkstriders come in green, purple and - pink.

Hawkstriders can also be ridden by Orcs, Undead and Trolls. I haven’t confirmed this, but you probably need to have an Exalted reputation with Silvermoon City in order to purchase a Hawkstrider if you’re not a Blood Elf.

It also seems likely that Blood Elves could buy and ride Wolves, Undead Steeds and Raptors as well, but you’ll need to be Exalted with the appropriate race before they’ll train you or sell you the mount.

Your Hawkstrider conveniently stores in your backpack when not in use, and you can own Hawkstriders in multiple colors, to suit your mood.
