Macintosh Snowfall Screen Saver

Macintosh Snowfall Screen Saver

I’m not a big fan of screensavers… these days if I’ve been idle long enough for a screensaver to kick in, then I want my monitor off. This one’s very pretty, though, and I’m running it now. It’s from Russell Warneboldt and is free. It requires MacOS X 10.4 or later to run. Instructions follow after the cut.

To install it, first download it. Then copy Snowfall.qtz from it to ~/Library/Screen Savers or /Library/Screen Savers (to do this, go to the finder, go to your home directory, find the Library folder under it, and in the library folder create a Screen Savers folder if there isn’t one already, then drag Snowfall.qtz from the Snowfall disk image to the Screen Savers folder).

Then open your system preferences and find Desktop & Screen Saver on the first line. Snowfall should show up in the middle of the list. You can customize it by clicking the Options button. One of the coolest things you can do is select your own background image (check the Background Image checkbox; double click the Image and locate the picture you want to use).

I have 60 photos tagged with ‘winter’ on Flickr which you’re welcome to download and use with this screensaver.
