Over this weekend I met the author of the Google Guide web pages. Unfortunately, when we started to chat about Google, I tried to share some info I’d recently learned while working on my own pages, not realizing how much more she already knew than me. She was very nice about it.

The Google Guide web pages are a helpful guide to using Google more effectively. They’re useful to both searchers and web site authors. Google packs a lot more into their search engine than is obvious, and the Google Guide gives you a quick, well-organized run-down of how to do things with it you may have known you could do.

The Google Guide also provides useful tips for website developers. If you’re building a website one of the most difficult problems is driving traffic to it. You may have the best site in the world but if no one knows about it you might as well not have bothered. Google, being by far the most popular search engine, is something you want to know how to play well with. Without getting specifically into search engine optimization, the Google Guide gives some helpful tips on how to make Google like your site better.
