Apple’s Free iPod Educational Deal
Apple is offering several deals which can help save some dollars when you buy a Mac. Note that you need to buy everything together on the same invoice from the same store; the deals vary on where you can buy stuff from and still qualify for the rebate. And they are rebates - you’ll need to be fussy and clip UPC codes, save invoices, fill out forms and mail it all back to Apple.
The first deal is for educational buyers… if you have access to an educational discount, you may qualify for the ‘free iPod Nano’ deal when you buy a new Mac. The ‘free iPod Nano’ deal actually gets you back up to $179 on an iPod (the educational cost of a 2GB iPod Nano). You can buy a 60GB iPod with video and get $179 back on it, if you’d prefer.
The second deal gets you $50 off the academic edition of Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac.
The third deal gets you up to $100 back on a printer when you buy a qualifying printer at the same time as a Mac, through Apple. Even if you don’t need a printer, you can turn around and sell it for almost as much as you paid for it, and pocket nearly $100. For instance, a new HP Deskjet 6940 sells for around $122 on Amazon, and $129 on Apple, so you’d take home $93 minus Amazon’s fees for selling it. And there’s always Craigslist…
Remember, always check the rebate forms to make sure you qualify for the promotion and be sure of what the rules are. You should get easy access to the forms through the links above. Make sure that you can combine promotions. Apple’s pretty good about this with their own in-house promotions, but you may run into trouble when too many people want the original UPC code from the product you bought. And be sure to be prompt about filling in the rebate form and sending everything off that you need to send off.
