Checking the Temperature on Intel Macintoshes

Picture 5

Checking the temperature of your computer CPU is one of those things that a lot of people seem to like to do, like be able to control iTunes from the status bar of their mail reader, or plugin an add-on to every other application in the world so that it can tell them what the weather is in its own distinctive way.

Now you can find out if your MacBook Pro is really hot enough to burn your fingers, or if you need to go see a neurologist. Check out “CoreDuoTemp”, a cute little application that keeps a badge up showing the current CPU utilization, temperature, and speed. CoreDuoTemp is a donation-ware application based on “Speedit”, a kernel extension that provides access to CPU temperature and speed information. Although the authors encourage donations, they don’t bug you about it.

You can download CoreDuoTemp from http://macbricol.free.fr/coreduotemp/.
